AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System Solution

Overview

AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System enables service providers to build and operate wireless networks with extended coverage (e.g. networks that cover university campuses, resort areas, whole cities, or metropolitan areas). Such wireless networks AirStream provide the perfect infrastructure for offering mobile IPTV services to subscribers. The AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System utilizes the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz WiFi bands and is compatible with the 802.11 n standards. The system provides centralized management, monitoring and provisioning of a network of wireless CellNodes. It also performs roaming between network nodes, flood and broadcast prevention, and billing for IPTV sessions. The system requires special Wi-Fi 802.11n USB receivers and compatible STB devices to be able to provide high-channel capacity, unlimited subscriber IPTV distribution.

Support for Wireless Mesh Infrastructure

CellNode M100N AirStream is designed for deployment in wireless mesh infrastructure. In such infrastructure, each CellNode M100N AirStream communicates with an uplink relay (bridge) or access controller and with other wireless clients within its reach. If one CellNode device becomes temporarily unavailable, traffic is transparently redirected to other CellNodes located within physical proximity.

Automated Centralized Management and Provisioning

CellNode M100N AirStream ensures low operational and management costs via its support for centralized management and provisioning. Utilizing a central server interface, administrators can request a configuration change and/or firmware update which will be automatically propagated to all CellNodes within the provider network, regardless of their geographical location.

Built-in Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

CellNode M100N AirStream is designed to withstand extended power outages without service interruption. The device has a built-in uninterruptible power supply which can provide up to 23 hours of emergency power under normal load. The feature allows the device to be supplied with power on a part-time basis. For example, it can be installed on street light poles that are only powered during night-time.

Unique Routing Protocol with Policy Filtering

CellNode M100N AirStream features unique routing protocol that supports protected Spanning Tree/STP infrastructure to withstand any type of DoS attacks such as Unwanted Broadcasts, Network Flooding, ARP Poisoning, and Evil Twin attacks. The routing protocol logically isolates the client network layers and provides full roaming support. In addition, CellNode offers improved network security via its built-in policy management features to allow traffic prioritization and shaping. The device includes Firewall, QoS, and Radius software to provide advanced security management mechanisms.

Limited Number of Uplink Requirements

CellNode M100N AirStream requires limited number of Ethernet, fiber-optic or DSL uplinks when deployed in wireless mesh infrastructure. The device has a 5 GHz wireless transceiver dedicated to transport backbone traffic which allows multiple CellNodes to connect to a single uplink (via access controller). All backbone links are achieved either in a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint fashion to provide more alternative routes when needed.

2.4 Ghz Transceiver with Super-G and XRS Technologies

CellNode M100N AirStream features 2.4 GHz (802.11n) transceiver with Super-G and Extended Range (XRS) technologies. The 2.4 GHz wireless band is used by the CellNode to communicate with wireless clients located within its service range. All CellNode Access Points that operate in close proximity are utilizing variable power levels and operate on different channels to reduce possible interference.

5 Ghz Transceiver with Turbo-G Technology

CellNode M100N AirStream also features 5 GHz transceiver with Turbo-G technology and speed of up to 600Mbps. The 5GHz range is used for backbone communication only and features encrypted and compressed network data exchange.

Optimized RX/TX Power Management

CellNode M100N AirStream features optimized and centrally managed TX/RX power management for optimal performance and decreased interference with other devices. In addition, in situations when a specific client can not be easily reached, each CellNode M100N AirStream may adjust its power for optimized transmission.

Centralized Access Control

CellNode M100N AirStream enables service providers to exercise centralized access control over all wireless clients who access the network. All such clients can freely access a CellNode enabled network but will be allowed Internet access only after they successfully authenticate with the access controller that controls the network.

Real-Time Client Scanning and Triangulation Services

CellNode M100N AirStream offers real-time scanning to detect any wireless device that operates within its reach. Furthermore, if the signature of a particular wireless device is captured simultaneously by any three CellNodes, administrators can pin-point the location of such device, a process called Triangulation or Client Localization.

Advanced Authentication and Session Management

CellNode M100N AirStream supports advanced authentication and session management options. Each CellNode provides three levels of authentication – MAC, IP and PIN. After the 3 authentication levels are complete, the session management system takes over and dynamically manages the session traffic parameters. Any session can be disconnected at any point of time or automatically disconnected based on bandwidth and/or time limitations.

Integrated Billing for IPTV Sessions

The AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System includes the VoiceMaster® Billing Content Management Server server which enables scalable implementation of IPTV billing. VoiceMaster® supports multiple billing models and allows granular billing for IPTV sessions.

Centralized Traffic and Node Monitoring

Another valuable feature supported by the AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System is the centralized monitoring and traffic information which is enabled via Packet InterNet Groper (PING) and Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTP). The system can detect node failure and can generate a notification event that will be sent to the system administrator via email or SMS. In addition, administrators can view real-time status and traffic statistics information from the centralized system console.

Comprehensive Reporting

The AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System offers comprehensive reporting capabilities which enable providers to manage their businesses more effectively on a daily basis. Administrators can generate multiple customizable reports, including revenues, expenses, accounting and others. Additionally, the system can generate reports in the form of 2D and 3D graphs which help administrators spot any positive/negative trends easier.

Fault-Tolerant Architecture

The AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System operates in a wireless mesh architecture which makes substitution of failed access nodes easy. If one CellNode becomes temporarily unavailable, traffic can be transparently redirected to alternative nodes.

Seamless Network Roaming

The AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System offers seamless network roaming for wireless clients. Each client can transparently switch from one CellNode to another without experiencing session interruption while moving within the wireless network All roaming services are performed in real-time while retaining ongoing client connections, including active telephony calls.

Real-Time Status Notification

The AirStream CellNode Wireless Management System also offers real-time monitoring of the status of each wireless network node. Administrators have access to real-time information about each node, including online status, last activity and ping. The system also provides information related to power or battery problems of each node.
